Cineplexx Bozen brings the all-laser concept to Italy!

in Cinema

When the Austrian cinema chain Cineplexx opened a seven-theater multiplex in Bozen, South Tyrol, in 2009, the region was super enthusiastic about its first ‘big cinema’. On a technical note, Cineplexx Bozen was Italy’s first cinema to go all-digital. This month, the group takes it up a notch; Cineplexx Bozen is now the first Italian cinema to embrace Barco laser projection in every one of its cinema halls.
Leapfrogging the competition
Seven well fitted cinema halls, spacious seats, huge silver screens with digital image quality and blockbusters shown in Italian and German – the city’s two official languages: in 2009, that was Cineplexx’s strategy to outpace its competitors. When its cinema projectors needed an upgrade earlier this year, the management took another bold step to set itself apart. Christian Langhammer, CEO and owner, “Cinema is all about ensuring an outstanding movie experience. Great images are at the core of what we do. That’s why we absolutely wanted to invest in projectors that would ensure great image quality.”

Future-proof investment with low TCO
Cineplexx chose seven projectors from our Smart Laser series. They offer consistent DCI-compliant image quality with outstanding uniformity and high contrast. However, there’s more to the story than excellent image quality. Christof Papousek, CFO and co-owner: “Our technicians are delighted with the absence of lamps, the easy maintenance and high uptime. We are happy that power consumption will drop dramatically. From a financial perspective, this is a great investment in future-proof technology at a very attractive total cost of ownership.”

A laser projector for every screen size

Thanks to Barco’s broad laser projector portfolio, Cineplexx was able to choose projectors that match its differently sized screens. In mid-August, CinemaNext, Europe’s largest cinema exhibition services company, equipped Cineplexx Bolzano with two 4K 23BLP projectors, and four DP2K-20CLP and one DP2K-15CLP Smart Projectors.
