Barco expands Surgical Advisory Board to 3 key opinion leaders
Kortrijk, Belgium, 28 June 2023 – Since April of this year, Prof. Sheraz Markar has joined Prof. Dr Nick Maynard and Dr Mathieu D’Hondt in the Surgical Advisory Board of technology leader Barco. With their extended expertise and end-user experience, the Surgical Advisory Board collaborates with the Barco teams on the development of new clinical innovations and the improvement of Barco’s existing medical solutions.

Prof. Sheraz Markar - PhD
Prof. Markar is an Associate Professor and Academic Director of Surgical Interventional Trials Unit, Nuffield Department of Surgery, University of Oxford. He has a strong academic and clinical interest in the management of benign and malignant upper gastrointestinal disease, with over 280 publications. His specific research interests include novel clinical trial design, surgical quality assurance and introduction of novel therapies to improve clinical outcomes for patients with upper gastrointestinal disease. Prof. Markar is a member and chair of several surgical committees including the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery and International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus, and has received several research awards, including the Royal College of Surgeons Hunterian Professorship 2020 and United European Gastroenterology Rising Star 2019.

Dr Mathieu D’Hondt - PhD
Doctor Mathieu D’Hondt is member of staff at the Department of Digestive and Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic Surgery at the AZ Groeninge hospital Kortrijk, Belgium. He is a leading expert in the field of minimally invasive liver -and pancreatic surgery, renowned for his scientific publications and expertise in this specialized area. Dr D’Hondt is a European proctor for robotic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, and an esteemed member of various surgical associations.

Prof. Dr Nick Maynard
Prof. Dr. Nick Maynard is a leading consultant Upper GI surgeon based in Oxford, with more than twenty-five years of experience. As one of the leading Upper GI surgeons in the UK, Professor Maynard is particularly experienced in the surgical management of upper gastrointestinal cancer and complex benign disease, with expertise in upper gastrointestinal laparoscopy and endoscopy procedures. He is the Senior Surgeon and Lead for the Upper GI Surgery service at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, and President of the Association of Upper GI Surgery of Great Britain and Ireland (AUGIS).
