Context
Haikou International Duty-Free City stands as a comprehensive tourism and retail complex, driven by the "duty-free + cultural tourism" dual mechanism, and is operated by China Duty Free Group. Nestled in the sub-center of Haikou's west coast, covering approximately 450,000 square meters, it ranks as the world's largest duty-free complex. Capitalizing on the unprecedented opportunity of duty-free business presented by Hainan Island's "independent customs operations," Haikou International Duty-Free City marries commercial scenes with digital art tourism. It forges a Qiongya Island digital realm that seamlessly melds the physical and digital worlds within the Aura Skyline Secret Forest-themed atrium.
The Skyline Secret Forest unfurls eight unique scenarios, each imbued with exquisite tonality, narrating distinct stories of Hainan. It features a myriad of characteristic art installations and scenes inspired by ecological and locally rooted animal elements such as "butterflies, fish, deer, apes, pheasants, lizards, tortoises, leopards." This creation offers a poetic and romantic "Fantasy Hainan Island" shopping experience to visitors through immersive projections.
Challenge
Within the 1,600 square meter atrium, the 1,000 square meters of ground projection play a pivotal role in crafting the dense forest-themed world. This endeavor encompasses an array of colors and elements, demanding projection equipment with cutting-edge color expression and detail rendering capabilities. It also necessitates the creation of a seamless, chromatic aberration-free overall imagery across the extensive projection space to deliver a fully immersive visual experience.
Furthermore, unlike traditional facade projections, ground projection requires equipment to be mounted above the space, presenting substantial installation challenges that call for compactness and flexibility.
Solution
After meticulous evaluation of the projection site, the Barco team opted for 12 sets of UDX-4K32 projectors to cover the atrium's expansive 1,000 square meters of ground projection space.
Barco's UDX-4K32 projectors boast 4K UHD resolution and a remarkable 31,000 lumens of light output. They offer a wide spectrum of chromatic range in the industry, ensuring high-brightness projection and color quality that rivals Xenon while surpassing Rec.709 color space standards.
