Projecting with dolphins

読み終わるまでの時間:約1分

Kolmården Wildlife Park, Scandinavia’s biggest zoo, welcomes no fewer than half a million visitors each summer. That number may even catapult this July and August, as Kolmården’s refurbished dolphinarium, which has always been the zoo’s main attraction, has scheduled a brand-new dolphin show. A fixed install of three HDQ-2K40 projectors - the very first fixed install of HDQ-2K40 projectors worldwide - ensures a perfect backdrop for the show.

Raising the bar

The story of the Kolmården Dolphinarium has been one of premières and firsts. It opened in 1969 as the very first dolphinarium in Scandinavia. When in 2012 Kolmården decided to refurbish the dolphinarium and create a new show, it was determined to seriously raise the bar. The zoo hired the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra to record the music and contracted Pixelfield United (a new joint-venture of multiple companies, including Barco’s partner Scenteknik AVL) to think up and work out a hi-tech audiovisual concept.

Absolutely wanted the HDQ-2K40

Pixelfield United installed three Barco HDQ-2K40 projectors (+ 1 redundant projector), to provide a perfect backdrop on a 33 x 7m screen. Vello Hermann of Pixelfield United: “I’ve been relying on Barco solutions for over 20 years now and they have never disappointed me. I knew that Barco was working on a high-brightness 2K projector and absolutely wanted that one for Kolmården, on account of its 40,000 ANSI lumens, the DLP technology and the high-end ImagePRO technology for flexible scaling.”

Amazingly reliable

Visitors to ‘Life’, as the new show is called, are amazed at how the dolphins, the symphonic music and the projection work together to tell the story of our blue planet – and how we should take good care of it. The show has been running for some months now, five times per day, without the slightest hiccup.

Don’t miss it, if you should be travelling to Sweden this summer!
