The prestigious business newspaper Financial Times, in partnership with data provider Statista, has unveiled its esteemed shortlist of Europe’s Climate Leaders, spotlighting European companies that take relevant action to mitigate climate change. We are proud to secure our place on the list, with the highest score of all Belgian companies listed and earning the 11th position out of 36 in the Technology & Electronics sector. This year marks the fourth publication of the list. 600 companies were selected from a longlist of 2,000 companies, covering 23 countries and 22 different industries.
Scoring methodology
Europe’s Climate Leaders list identifies companies that are taking significant action to mitigate climate change. It includes European companies that achieved the greatest reduction in their core emissions intensity between 2017 and 2022, collaborate with the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), and set targets of further emission reductions. Barco was granted a score of 74.1.
The Financial Times and Statista explain how their list is based on multiple criteria: “The methodology of Europe’s Climate Leaders list takes the reduction of absolute emissions (scope 1 & 2) and transparency of scope 3 into account. This indicates a comprehensive approach to evaluating companies' sustainability efforts.”
