TruePix is Barco’s new flagship LED platform, based on 2 decades of expertise in LED technology. In order to bring the best possible LED platform to our customers, we have re-evaluated every component and perfected where necessary. The result is a new direct view LED platform, ensuring an unmatched lasting viewing experience, with sustainable ultimate quality and easier than ever to install.
TruePix is available with pixel pitches of 0.9 mm, 1.2 mm, 1.5 mm and 1.9 mm.
So which one is best suited for your application? The key is to know the viewing distance.
The Optimal Viewing Distance (OVD) of your display is the distance from which you can no longer distinguish the individual pixels but start to see a uniform reproduction of the content. The image at the right explains the optimal viewing distance for the different available pixel pitches.
A general rule of thumb is that the OVD (in m) = 2 x pixel pitch (in mm). Although very handy, this rule of thumb should not be considered an absolute truth. In control room applications, such as SCADA or content with small letters, the OVD can increase. An on-site evaluation is therefore a good idea.
The installation process of an LED video wall is a very precise job. Every minor deviation either results in a bigger inter-screen gap, or strain on the panels. On average, about 30% of the installation time is consumed by adjustments to minimize the seams. Especially when dealing with very fine pixel pitches (the smallest being 0.9 mm), every slight imperfection is clearly visible.

No mounting wall is perfectly straight, and this causes challenges when mounting an LED video wall. This can lead to imperfect alignment, tile gaps or mechanical stress (leading to module failure). To counter this, TruePix’ smart mounting system uses the force of gravity and the principle of communicating vessels to make the wall perfectly straight.

People expect impeccable image quality of LED video walls, under all circumstances. However, this is not a given. It takes an innovative and powerful image processing system to make the content truly come to life. Our proprietary Barco Infinipix® Gen2 processor is the top performer in the market today, presenting a number of unique features – both software and hardware – to bring the most out of your video wall.
LED displays are renowned for their high brightness. However, 90% of all installations only use the wall at 1/3th of its maximum capacity. This means that the ability to display perfect images, even when drastically dimmed, is a crucial asset of an LED video wall solution.
When looking at an LED screen for long periods of time, eye fatigue can be a serious issue. For control room operators, for example, this is a real issue that can lead to loss of concentration and even eye problems. The cause is the perceivable patterns that originate from driving LEDs. Barco’s patented SteadyView technology strongly counters this effect, helping to reduce eye fatigue.
When operating a large video wall, you need multiple controllers driving it. And although they are fed the same source, there can be a slight hiccup in the synchronization between different panels. This is especially visible when an object is moving across the canvas, as becomes clear on the video below.

The color gamut of an LED display is limited by the characteristics of the individual LEDs. This affects the video wall’s ability to display colorful images accurately. Therefore Barco developed Smart-Calibration.

LED video walls and wild animals have one thing in common: their biggest threat is man. The display can function for a very long time, but the moment they are touched (by accident, or for maintenance reasons), they are at their most vulnerable.

To make maintenance and service as flexible as possible, TruePix is fully accessible from both the front and the back. This allows service staff to choose the option that best suits the needs. The previous page showed the motorized module extraction from the front. The special tile back design, ensures risk-free swaps.
Although the LEDs themselves are very reliable, you also need to feed the panels with information. This data path is more vulnerable, which can cause malfunction of the video wall.
