It goes without saying that there’s a significant difference between projecting a 2D image onto a flat and uniform screen and projecting onto medieval façades or industrial constructions. 3D imaging naturally adds some extra challenges to projection. The surfaces of 3D objects can vary in form, color, structure, etc. It’s important to keep these things in mind throughout the process to make sure your projection mapping is eye-catching.

That’s why we’ve published a new white paper with professional insights on how to choose the right projector for 3D mappings. The paper is an extension of the e-book launched some weeks ago.

In this white paper you’ll find more technical details about what elements you need to consider before building a video mapping system, which specs you must look at when choosing a projector – from brightness levels to resolution –, and other projector design requirements to get that mind-blowing result you had in mind and create the best immersive experiences.

Barco’s solutions for projection mapping

With a wide range of brightness and resolutions, and incredible color accuracy our projectors are able to cover varying surfaces. Their rugged design is the ideal solution for outdoor and indoor installations, and their installation flexibility provides full peace-of-mind during those large complex projection mapping set-ups. We recently launched a new addition to our portfolio with the UDX-U45LC, specifically designed for projection mappings. This new 45,000-lumen light canon comes in UXGA resolution with a ‘squarer’ aspect ratio (4:3) to minimize light waste when projecting on 3D objects. It’s a very well suited and affordable solution for live spectaculars, but also for permanent mappings in theme parks, sport arenas or museums.
