Order and precedence of ClickShare App discovery

There are 3 processes to populate the discovered clients displayed by the ClickShare Desktop App, in this order:

  1. Wi-Fi beacon: The scanned Wi-Fi AP (Access Point) list required by the system's API includes RSSI and other information, such as wireless IP and Ethernet IP if available.
  2. mDNS/SSDP: Multicast over the network forwarded over the different VLAN's is required for a good functionality. There may be some duplicated Base Units that are discovered by Wi-Fi beacons.
For troubleshooting mDNS issue, see KB 3562.
  3. Ultrasound: The ultrasound beacon comes from one of the Base Units and shares the serial to determine the proximity of the base units. It still requires one of the previously mentioned discovery methods, Wi-Fi Beacon or mDNS/SSDP, to map the device with its corresponding network information in order to arrange the list based on proximity.

The discovery over ClickShare Mobile App is more limited only and will not provide the extended list as the Desktop App because it is not using the Wi-Fi beacon to populate the list so discovery is limited to following:

  1. mDNS/SSDP: Multicast over the network forwarded over the different VLAN's is required for a good functionality.  For troubleshooting mDNS issue, see KB 3562
  2. Ultrasound: The ultrasound beacon comes from one of the Base Units and shares the serial to determine the proximity of the base units. It still requires mDNS/SSDP, to map the device with its corresponding network information in order to arrange the list based on proximity.
  3. Bluetooth beacon: Only for ClickShare Mobile App. Broadcast Bluetooth beacons are used for AirPlay discovery (Bonjour) only , for details see KB 3416.
