Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews

222,000 lumens to project video animations onto façade of Polin Museum 
 
Located in what was once the heart of Warsaw’s lively Jewish quarter, the ‘Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews’ tells the 1,000-year-old history of Jewish presence in Poland. After many years of financing rounds and construction work, the award-winning glass building was opened to the public in 2013. On 28 October 2014, the presidents of both Poland and Israel officially inaugurated the Core Exhibition.

Wanted: 222,000 lumens
The organizers had scheduled a fine selection of music, arts and culture for the gala grand opening. The eye-catcher of the festivities? That may well have been the video mapping spectacle onto the façade of the museum, featuring graphics created by both professionals and street art artists. Barco partner PRO4MEDIA was responsible for the – challenging – technical set-up. “The set design was truly unique and technically difficult, as the building’s glass facade had to act as a projection surface. In order to get bright, crisp images, we had to use the phenomenal power of 222,000 lumens,” recalls Marek Wasilewski, owner of PRO4MEDIA.

Lighting trees
PRO4MEDIA's four Barco HDQ-2K40 projectors, which were coupled and blended, were perfectly up to the job. Besides those, the AV expert used a Barco HDF-W26 and HDX-W18s from its rental stack: “The designers had decided to use an existing tree located on the central axis of the museum wall as part of the picture. We illuminated it with our Barco HDF-W26 projector. In addition, we used our HDX-W18 projectors to project live onto the screens located at the sides of the stage. Altogether, it was a fantastic spectacle that got ample press coverage,” Wasilewski concluded.
