Context:
The Andaman and Nicobar Administration collaborated with Tricolour India Schauspiel to improve the visitor experience at the Cellular Jail by replacing the old performance with an immersive multimedia projection mapping using our high-brightness laser projectors. The new exhibition is a visual feast that combines numerous projection mapping methods never seen before in one place.
Challenge:
The previous show comprised basic lighting effects on the walls of the jail structure accompanied by a voice-over on a conventional sound system. It became outdated and did no longer cater to the large influx of tourists. With over 1500+ visitors every day the government wanted to enhance the tourist experience.
Solution:
To provide an immersive experience, Barco’s high-brightness laser projectors were used to create a visual extravaganza with an amalgamation of various projection mapping techniques. Vibrant animations, illustrations, and characters were smartly projected on the building complementing the physical structure of the jail cells.
Tricolor also made use of the elements from the landscape, such as the tree in front of the facade, by projecting abstract audio equalization visuals on it, giving an illusion of a 'Speaking Tree.' They used the Barco G60-W8 to project on the tree. To add more dynamism to the show, Tricolor offered a 'Holographic Projection' on the ground, thus creating multiple layers of projection surfaces to enhance the viewing experience of the visitor. Barco UDX-W32 models provided the required brightness levels for the jail's dull walls.
A modern surround sound system was also incorporated, pinpointing audio references from all around, bringing the action from each surface alive.
Results:
The new show has been operational since 22nd January 2023, and the government is satisfied with the outcome. The Barco team provided fast and seamless delivery, meeting project timelines without any challenges. The consistent customer support in remote locations like the Andamans was a key benefit for the government. We also offered efficient servicing of the existing project installed at Ross Island.
Barco's immersive experience solutions proved to be a game-changer for the Andaman & Nicobar Administration's Cellular Jail project. The high-brightness laser projectors provided an immersive feel, and the vibrant animations and illustrations projected on the building enhanced the tourist experience. Our products and services were readily available in the market, even with the chip shortage across various brands due to the pandemic, which proved to be a winning factor for the customer. The project's success sets a new benchmark in the projection mapping industry, and the results can be leveraged for PR & Social promotions.
