Berlin film festival and Barco celebrate 3D art house movies

For the first time in history, the Berlin International Film Festival (the Berlinale) has included 3D movies in its official program, thanks to the 3D digital cinema projectors supplied by Barco. To highlight this historic event, the Berlinale and the European Film Market organized a special 3D theme day Sunday 13 February.

This year’s edition of the Berlin International Film Festival features three 3D movies as part of the official selection. With these movies, the Berlinale explores the medium’s artistic potential following its recent triumph in Hollywood blockbusters.

The screenings are complemented with a discussion session in the European Film Market, one of the world’s three largest film markets for both commercial art house and specialized mainstream movies.

The selected 3D movies contribute to the Berlinale’s more daring program this year. Legendary choreographer Pina Bausch is featured in the world premiere of Wim Wender’s 3D dance film. Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams - a 3D documentary about prehistoric paintings in France - is in its European premiere. And Michel Ocelots’ Tales of the Night is a 3D animated movie.
