What is SteadyColor TM

Around 90% of images generated are now in color because color is often used for additional functionality (e.g Vascular Ultrasound etc...).
To guarantee consistent, perceptually linear color and still meet the DICOM standard for grayscales, SteadyColor executes advanced calibration for both grayscale and all Just Noticeable Differences (JNDs).
This is achieved using multiple sensors in combination with 3D Look-Up Tables (LUTs).

The Barco SteadyColor calibration technology helps to discern more details in the color content of images.

Benefits:

  • Maximize the diagnostic value of color in images
  • Helps you discern more details in the color content of images with more accurate, consistent and calibrated colors
  • Maintain image quality and DICOM compliance under all lighting conditions
  • Allows perception of smaller gradations of color such as are used to show radiotracer levels in PET-CT images

A closer comparison with and without Steadycolor:
Steadycolor.JPG

Comparison:

  • Looking at the color ramp on the left, more color variations can be seen with SteadyColor, as more yellow, orange, and light blue variations are visible whereas without SteadyColor fewer details can be seen between red, green, and blue.
  • Looking at the image itself, a higher color variation and details can be noticed with SteadyColor.

What is the difference between SteadyColor Standard and FULL Calibration?

Barco’s SteadyColor™ technology was created to achieve consistency and perceptual linearity in the display of color images. With multiple internal sensors, display parameters are constantly monitored and adjusted to ensure that the perceptual difference between colors is proportional to their Digital Driving Level (DDL) difference. This setting controls how SteadyColor is applied to the display:

Standard: Calibrates the display system to meet the DICOM GSDF and guarantees consistent, perceptually linear distribution of color hues.

Full: Extends the standard perceptual linearization. The colors will look more desaturated than with the standard SteadyColor calibration.

Note: The displays not requiring a Barco MXRT graphics board, are capable of writing the steady color calibration values in their display 3D LUT while for the other display models, these settings are written in the 3D LUT of the MXRT graphics board.

Info: QAWeb Enterprise is required to be installed on the workstations to perform the SteadyColor calibration.
