Celebrating Play Day: Fostering community and creativity at Barco

2 min de lecture

Play Day is more than just an event at Barco; it’s a celebration of community and connection. On a Saturday in October, employees came together at the campus in Belgium to create fun experiences for about 130 underprivileged children.

Ellen Roegis and many colleagues are the energy behind Barco’s Play Day. "When I first volunteered at the Play Day event, I was really struck by how much it means to the children, ages 6 to 12. They get so excited about it for weeks, and then keep talking about it long after. The goal is to remind them that, no matter where they come from, they deserve a fun, worry-free day at our Campus. We also throw in a technical activity to spark their interest in STEM and inspire them for the future”, Ellen says.

The success of Play Day relies on the enthusiasm and commitment of volunteers from every corner of Barco. Their dedication not only makes the event possible but also strengthens the bonds among employees.

"Since the formula for Play Day has been so successful, we don’t plan to change it, but we do want to increase the number of children we invite. To make this happen, we'll need additional funds and volunteers. We'll begin preparations for the next edition in early 2025, so anyone interested can always reach out to stay in the loop and get involved in the planning”, Ellen continues.

Looking ahead, Play Day will continue to be a favorite on Barco's calendar, highlighting our commitment to a culture where everyone feels valued and connected, while focusing on HOPE—Health, Outreach, Planet, and Empowerment of Youth in our community.

"What a day at Barco. The kids were super excited about their experience. On the bus home, there was a little boy who spontaneously said, 'I’m coming back tomorrow.' 😊 How wonderful, right!! You all dedicated yourselves to kids who have less, and you as a team did an absolutely amazing job. Thank you so much.”- Love in Action vzw
